The Benefits of being a Full-Share MemberBy LaToya WilsonFull-share members have the ability to vote on issues concerning the Union, like contracts, pay merits, classifications, officers, and benefits. When contracts are negotiated, the EMPLOYER looks at numbers. Right now we have a 70/30 membership count (70% full-share, 30% fair-share). It would be FABULOUS if we could go to the EMPLOYER with 100% membership! Numbers mean POWER and the higher the numbers, the more leverage we, as members of the UNION will have in times like these (i.e. budget crisis, negotiations, LAYOFFS). Fair-share members do not have the ability to vote or attend union trainings and conferences. The question is: WHO DO YOU WANT DECIDING YOUR FUTURE? We are all fighting for one cause "GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT, RESPECTFUL WORK ENVIRONMENTS and CONSIDERABLE WAGES".
